South Indian actress A Shankunthala passes away

CHENNAI: South Indian actress and dancer A Shakunthala (84) passed away. She died last evening at a private hospital in Bengaluru due to age-related ailments.

She has acted in more than 600 films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages. The movies she has acted in Malayalam are Kuppivala, Cochin Express, Neelaponman, Thacholi Ambu and Avesham.

She started her film career in the 1960s as a background dancer. She was active in films till 1998. Her last film was Ponmanai released in 1998. She was active in Tamil serials till 2019. Her first film that got noticed was CID Sankar released in 1970. She was known as CID Shakunthala after that.
