NAGERCOIL: The relatives alleged that the death of the college student in Nidravila, is a murder. Abhitha (19), daughter of Chinnappar and Thankabai of Vavara died on November 5.

The police version is Abhitha, a first year BSC student of a private college in Kaliyakkavilai, was in a relationship with a youth for two years. Her family said Abhitha had told them that he continued the relationship on the pretext of marriage and that his family were against the relationship.

The two met after the youth asked her to meet alone on September 7. Her relatives told police that Abhitha drank the juice offered by the youth and from the next day onwards she suffered a stomach pain. Following that, she was admitted to a private hospital in Marthandam.

She was later shifted to a private hospital in the capital city for further treatment.

She died while undergoing treatment there. Her mother told police that she consumed a slow poison liquid and the doctor who was treating her said that her liver has been completely damaged. However, the police claimed that further investigation can be conducted only after getting the postmortem report. The body was handed over to her relatives yesterday after the inquest at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The Tamil Nadu Nidravila police registered a case on her mother’s complaint.
