Central govt amends Aadhar rules; these details should be updated, action taken to prevent fraud

kk

NEW DELHI: The central government has amended Aadhar regulations. The new guideline is to update supporting documents every ten years. Proof of identity, proof of address and phone numbers should be updated. It is recommended to update the details even if there is no change in these documents. The new notification has been issued in the context of increasing frauds through Aadhaar across the country.

The biometric details such as fingerprints, facial photographs and iris patterns are collected during Aadhar registration. Aadhaar is widely used for many services of central and state governments. The Ministry of Information of Technology has clarified that the new amendment has been introduced to ensure accuracy of details in the Central Identities Data Repository. Aadhaar details can be updated directly via online and through Akshaya centres. Earlier, the Unique Identification Authority of India, the agency that grants Aadhaar, issued a directive to update personal information but it was not mandatory.
