KOCHI: If the LED bulb and tubes are damaged, it’s does not worry for Mulanthuruthy natives. Here there is a clinic that repairs LED bulbs, so that it will continue to work for a long time. One year warranty is also available.
PA Thankachan, a member of the Central Executive Committee of Sastra Sahitya Parishad, initiated revolutionary changes in the village. People protested against the demolition of the hill in Manaikkamala in Thuruthikkara. As a result, Cochin University examined the water sources of the place. From there water security, energy management, waste disposal etc. became the goals of the village. Thuruthikkara has been declared as a green village. A science centre was also established. Energy conservation became the first project.
Filament bulbs have been replaced by LED lights. An LED bulb can illuminate eight rooms with the current needed for filament bulb of 60 watts. People were made aware about this. Soon the village was free of filament bulbs.
Then they tried to make LED bulbs on their own to avoid buying it at high cost. Clubs, Kudumbashree, MGNREAGA workers and school students united to form a bulb manufacturing unit. Experts were brought in and taught to make LED bulbs and repair damaged ones. ANERT also helped. LED Clinic was opened in 2017.
