KALPETTA: Two huge trailers that were stopped at the foothills of the Thamarassery Ghat for the past two months have finally crossed the ghat. Trailers loaded with industrial filter inter-chambers for Nestlé, which was parked at the foothills, climbed the pass from 11 pm and reached Lakidi around 2.10 am.

They were stopped two months ago due to concerns that the traffic would be disrupted when the trailers go up the ghat. The trailer lorries started their journey from Adivaram at around 11 pm. A police team under the leadership of Thamarassery DySP TK Ashraf accompanied the lorries. Tehsildar C Zubair and Forest Ranger Rajeev Kumar also reached the ghat. The fire force, forest department and KSEB officials were also present at the spot for services following the passing of the trailers.

The trailer loaded with heavy machinery stalled in two places on the first curve. But the journey resumed and passed the fourth bend at 12.20 am and finally reached at 2.10 am. There was a huge crowd of locals to see the trailer pass by.

An alternative route was also arranged for the vehicles going to Kozhikode from the district via Thamarassery Ghat on Thursday night from 8 pm in view of the passing of trailers. The arrangement was made on the basis of a meeting chaired by ADM NI Shaju.
