THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The salary of Chintha Jerome, Kerala State Youth Commission chairperson, has been increased to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 50, 000. The Finance Department's move is to increase it with a retroactive effect.
Chintha, who is a CPM state committee member, will get Rs 6 lakh in pending salaries during this period. It is indicated that the order in this regard will be issued soon. Initially, the finance department did not agree to the demand to pay the previous arrears based on the increased salary, but later relented.
In 2016, Chinta Jerome became the chairperson of the State Youth Commission. From June 2018, she started getting a salary of Rs. 1 lakh. She then asked the Department of Youth Welfare to raise her salary to Rs 1 lakh since assuming power.
Former President Congress leader RV Rajesh has also approached the court with the same demand. The Youth Commission was formed during the UDF regime. Meanwhile, Joy Mathew, Veena S Nair and others have criticized the retroactive increase in Chintha Jerome's salary.
Joy Mathew sarcastically said that children who work hard for grace marks and grade should aim for the position in Youth Commission. He added that the children who go abroad should also keep this in mind.
