
ABU DHABI: The 2026 IPL player auction is here. Australian superstar Cameron Green became the most expensive overseas player ever in IPL history after Kolkata Knight Riders took him for a staggering Rs 25.20 crore. Rajasthan Royals initially tried to acquire Cameron but later backed out. Kolkata and Chennai Super Kings got into an intense bidding war, but KKR emerged successful.
Green entered the auction with a base price of two crores. Former KKR player Venkatesh Iyer was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for seven crores. Gujarat Titans were interested in the player but backed out later. KKR tried to win Venkatesh back, but RCB’s offer was too difficult to break.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings bought Uttar Pradesh spin prodigy Prasanth Veer for Rs 14.20 crores.
Mumbai Indians bought South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock for Rs 1 crore. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga will play for Lucknow Super Giants for a base price of Rs 2 crore. South African David Miller joined the Delhi Capitals. Delhi bought the player for a base price of Rs 2 crore.
It was also noteworthy that some prominent Indian players who had come to the auction with high hopes were not considered by any team. Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw remained unsolved. Sarfaraz Khan had a brilliant form for Mumbai.
New Zealander Devon Conway and Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk were also not considered in the auction in the first phase. Eleven Malayali players are on the list with hopes in the star auction. KM Asif, Rohan Kunnummal, Salman Nisar, Ahmed Imran, Eden Apple Tom, Vignesh Puthur, Srihari Nair, Abdul Basit, Akhil Skaria, Mohammed Sharafuddin and Jikku Bright are the players who have made it to the auction list.
A total of 77 players from ten teams will get a chance in the auction. The total amount that can be spent for all the teams is Rs 237.55 crore.
