Mumbai Indians crush Gujarat Titans, jump in points table

AHMEDABAD: Mumbai Indians registered their second win in the ongoing IPL season by defeating Gujarat Titans by 99 runs. Chasing a target of 200 runs, Gujarat Titans were bundled out for just 100 runs in 15.5 overs. Washington Sundar was the top scorer for the team with 26 runs. With this win, Mumbai Indians moved up from the bottom of the table to seventh place.

Gujarat Titans had a poor start, losing opener Sai Sudharsan off the very first ball of the innings. The top order, including captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler, failed to settle, putting the team under early pressure. The batting lineup struggled throughout and could not build any meaningful partnerships. For Mumbai Indians, Ashwani Kumar led the bowling attack with an impressive four-wicket haul, supported well by the rest of the bowlers in a dominant performance.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 199 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs. Tilak Varma was the top scorer, remaining unbeaten on 101 runs off 45 balls. Mumbai Indians scored only 74 runs in the first 10 overs but accelerated in the last 10 overs, adding 125 runs. Openers Quinton de Kock (13 off 11) and Danish Malewar (2 off 4) were dismissed early. Naman Dhir, who came in at number three, played a strong innings, scoring 45 runs off 32 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav (15 off 10) and captain Hardik Pandya (15 off 16) failed to make an impact. Sherfane Rutherford remained not out on 1. Tilak Varma’s innings included eight boundaries and seven sixes. For Gujarat Titans, Kagiso Rabada took three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna picked up one wicket each.
