WASHINGTON: The White House has come forward lashing out at the Nobel Committee following the announcement of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Expressing disappointment that President Donald Trump was not awarded the Nobel Prize, the White House accused the Nobel Committee of showing political bias instead of recognising a genuine commitment to global peace.
'Once again, the Nobel Committee has placed politics above peace. President Trump will continue to make peace deals, end wars, and save lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian and the willpower to move mountains. There is no one like him,' White House spokesperson Stephen Cheung said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Earlier, Trump had publicly claimed he deserved the Nobel Peace Prize, saying he was responsible for ending seven wars around the world. He also claimed his intervention was crucial in ending the India-Pak war.
Meanwhile, the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. The Nobel Committee said that the award recognises her efforts to promote democracy at a time when many nations are sliding towards authoritarianism. It honours her peaceful and just struggle to secure democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and to achieve a transition from dictatorship to democracy.
The prize carries a reward of 11 million Swedish kronor (about 1.2 million U.S. dollars). Known as the “Iron Lady of Venezuela,” Machado was also featured in Time magazine’s list of the “100 Most Influential People of 2025.”
