'Former Miss Earth a threat to security of country', reason behind arrest of model Meghna Alam

DHAKA: Police have arrested model Meghna for spreading false information about a Saudi diplomat. The Bangladesh police have taken action, citing that spreading false information could negatively affect the relations between the two countries. Meghna Alam, a prominent model in Bangladesh and former Miss Earth Bangladesh winner, was arrested. The police took Meghna into custody on the 9th of this month.

Meghna had shared a live video on Facebook alleging that police officers were breaking into her house. Meghna says in the video that she is ready to cooperate with the police. The model, who was produced in a Dhaka court, was later transferred to Kashimpur jail. Before her arrest, Meghna had published several Facebook posts against the foreign diplomat. It was alleged that he was trying to silence her with the help of investigative agencies.

Meghna's father says that Meghna and the Saudi official were in love, but the reason for the problems is that her daughter rejected the official's marriage proposal. Meghna's father, Badrul Alam, says that the Saudi official hid the fact that he had another wife and children and that he withdrew from the relationship only after Meghna found out about this.

Meanwhile, protests have been widespread in Bangladesh against Meghna's arrest. Amnesty International has expressed concern over Meghna's arrest. Amnesty International has demanded that she be either charged with internationally recognized crimes or released.
