PATNA: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will resign today. Nitish has called his last cabinet meeting as Chief Minister at 11 am on Tuesday. After that, the longest-serving chief minister of Bihar will hand over his resignation to the Governor. The prized chief minister post in Bihar will go to BJP, while Nitish will head towards Rajya Sabha.
Currently, Nitish has shifted his belongings from his official residence at 1, Aney Marg to a new residence at 7 Circular Road. Senior leaders are holding discussions to decide on the ministers to be included in the new government. The Bihar Assembly, which has 243 members, can include a maximum of 36 ministers.
Nitish Kumar was sworn in as a Rajya Sabha member the other day. The ceremony was held in the chamber of Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan in Parliament. Nitish, who rose to prominence in Bihar politics in 1985, became the Chief Minister 10 times. He also served as a Union Minister in the Vajpayee government.
His political acumen and sheer manoeuvring during uncertainty were skills that even puzzled political analysts. There are indications that current deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary will become the new Chief Minister of Bihar. However, there has been no official confirmation on this. The announcement will be made after the 14th.
