BJP leader shot dead by unknown assailants in West Bengal

KOLKATA: BJP leader was shot dead by unknown attackers in West Bengal. Rajesh Jha alias Raju Jha of Purba Bardhaman district was the one who got killed last night. The attackers opened fire at Raju when he was travelling to Kolkata. He was involved in illegal coal trade and is accused in many cases.

The attack took place outside a sweet shop in Shaktigarh police station limits. Raju Jha was sitting in his SUV outside the shop when the attackers arrived in another car, destroyed the SUV, and opened fire. Police inform that one of them fired several rounds. Jha died on the spot and 2 people who were with him were injured. After the incident, the accused fled from the spot. The injured were admitted to the hospital.

Senior police officials reached the spot and conducted an investigation after receiving the information. Purba Bardhaman SP Kamanashish Sen responded that the incident was unfortunate and an investigation is underway. It is reported that Jha, who is associated with hotel business, joined BJP before the last assembly elections. He was also arrested in a coal smuggling case.
