NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the country free from Naxalism. He made this statement in Parliament during a discussion on anti-Naxal operations. He said that those who take up arms will not be spared and added that it was the Modi government that eliminated Maoist activities in the country.

Amit Shah also accused the opposition of supporting Maoists. He said that “red terror” had disrupted development and alleged that the Congress had done nothing for tribal communities.

He pointed out that the CRPF and Chhattisgarh Police have been fighting continuously for the past 12 years to eliminate Maoism. "The opposition is comparing Naxals to freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh and Birsa Munda. Those leaders fought for India’s independence. These people are claiming that Naxalism emerged to end poverty. In reality, Maoism has only led to more poverty," Amit Shah said.

He further said that Maoists have killed many people in the country, more than those killed by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. He also accused Naxals of misleading tribal communities and providing weapons to innocent people. He added that Maoists have tried to prevent development from reaching tribal areas.
