BENGALURU: The police zeroed in on a property dispute as the mainspring behind the murder of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash. However, his son Karthik told the police that his mother Pallavi, who killed Om Prakash, had suffered from mental imbalance at times.

Pallavi has been under treatment for schizophrenia for over 12 years. She is also taking medication. Pallavi imagined Om Prakash coming to attack her and pointing a gun at her. Karthik also gave statements against his sister Kriti. Recently, Prakash had bought a house in the name of his sister, Saritha Kumari. Pallavi asked Prakash to transfer it to her name, but he refused. When a fight broke out at home, Pallavi sprinkled chilli powder on her husband's face. She then stabbed her husband multiple times in his chest.

Pallavi sat on a chair and watched Prakash die for about ten minutes. The police also said that she did not allow her daughter to take Prakash to the hospital.

After covering Prakash's face with a cloth, she made a video call to the IPS officer's wife and told her, "I killed that devil."

Karthik's complaint states that his mother has been threatening to kill his father for the past week. Prakash then moved to his sister's house. Two days ago, Kriti forced her father back home.

Even before, Pallavi had complained about her husband to the police and even staged a solitary protest in front of the station after police refused to file an FIR against Om Prakash.
