Youth under influence of drugs kills 10-year-old boy in Salem

SALEM: An unidentified youth, who trespassed into a house, stabbed a 10-year-old boy to death. The boy’s mother was also stabbed when she tried to stop him from the attack. The incident happened last evening in Salem. It is believed that the youth who committed the murder is addicted to drugs. The locals said the attack was unprovoked. The youth trespassed into the house where the woman stays with her two children. Yushkand, who was stabbed all over his body, died on the spot itself. The seriously injured woman identified as Satya (45) is undergoing treatment at the Salem Medical College Hospital. The Taramangalam police have registered a case and started an investigation.

Locals complain that atrocities by drug-addicted youths are rampant in the Salem area. Four youths who came to Mettur under the influence of drugs started a fight at a tea shop and stabbed the tea shop employee to death with a glass. The youths, who were smoking, were blowing smoke in the face of the employee. In a fit of rage, one of the youths broke the glass after drinking tea and stabbed him to death.

The locals are demanding that the police take immediate action against such atrocities. The locals have also submitted a petition to the district collector seeking his intervention.
