Court acquits 14 BJP workers in DYFI leader murder case

THRISSUR: The Fourth Additional Sessions Court here has acquitted 14 RSS-BJP activists accused in the case pertaining to the murder of CPM-DYFI leader KU Biju in Kodungallur. Job, Girish, Xavier, Subin, Manoj, Sreekumar, Unnikrishnan, Sreekumar, Ajithan, Rian Suresh, Umesh, Triprayar Giri, Kishore, Prashanth and one minor were acquitted by Judge KV Rajneesh.


The police found that Job of Edavilang Karichakulath house, a minor, Kalladan Girish of Ambattu house in Perinjanam, and Xavier alias Achayan in the Vempallur Pallipattu house were directly involved in the crime. The trial of the second accused, who was a minor, is going on in the Thrissur Juvenile Justice Court. The case was that the fifth accused Subin informed the first accused through his mobile phone that Biju was coming to the spot, and the accused Sreekumar, ho was the BJP district vice president, the driver, Manoj, and Unnikrishnan conspired to kill Biju.


KU Biju, who was a CPM Kodungallur local committee member and DYFI block vice president, was attacked on June 30, 2008. Biju died on July 2 while undergoing treatment.

The trial resumed in July this year after the High Court intervened against the delay in the trial of the case. The verdict in the case comes months after the trial was completed in August. Advocates B Raman Pillai, Prathapachandran Pillai, K Jayachandran, Adv B Gopalakrishnan and Arjun Sridhar appeared for the accused. Adv Paripilli R Ravindran was the Special Prosecutor.
