KOZHIKODE: A bold daylight theft has been reported at the residence of Mukkam Sub-Inspector Santhosh Kumar. The thieves broke into the house and escaped with Rs 8,500 in cash. One suspect has been arrested, while two others remain at large.

The incident took place at a rented two-storey house in Mukkam, where SI Santhosh Kumar resides along with Saneesh, an employee of a private firm. According to police, a three-member gang entered the house by breaking open the rear door, taking advantage of the occupants’ absence.

Once inside, the thieves forced open doors to three rooms and began collecting valuables, reportedly assuming the house would remain unoccupied during the day. However, their plan was disrupted when Saneesh unexpectedly returned home around 3 pm and caught them in the act.

While two members of the gang managed to escape, one suspect was apprehended on the spot. He has been identified as Miyaz Babu, a native of Puthenpeedika in Areekode.

Police said items, including a laptop and a torch, had already been moved outside, indicating the gang was preparing to flee. In addition to Rs 8,500 in cash, several household items were reported missing. A search has been launched to track down the remaining suspects, and further investigation is underway.
