Woman jumps from moving car to escape sexual assault in Thiruvananthapuram; two arrested

VIZHINJAM: A woman narrowly escaped an attempted sexual assault in broad daylight after jumping out of a moving car. Based on evidence provided by the woman, the Vizhinjam police have arrested two suspects. The arrested individuals have been identified as Ajith Raj (44) and Ashokan (54), both natives of Kovalam. The incident took place on the Kalluvettankuzhi-Venganoor road.

The incident occurred on Wednesday around 11:00 am. The woman was waiting at the Kalluvettankuzhi bus stop to travel to the city when the suspects approached her. They tricked her into entering the car by claiming it was a "share taxi." Once she got into the back seat, Ajith Raj, who was initially in the driver's seat, moved to the back with her, while Ashokan took over the driving. As the car started moving, the man in the back began to assault her. When the woman started screaming for help, the driver slowed the vehicle down. Seizing the opportunity, she courageously opened the door and jumped out of the moving car to safety.

Although the gang fled the scene, the woman managed to take a photograph of the vehicle, including its registration number. She immediately reached the Thampanoor police station and filed a complaint. Since the incident occurred within the Vizhinjam police limits, the case was transferred there. Following an investigation led by Vizhinjam SHO Reji Raj, the suspects were apprehended in Kovalam. The vehicle has been taken into custody, and the accused have been remanded.
