NEW DELHI: The CPM Polit Bureau (PB) has assessed that the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is likely to retain power in Kerala. Following an online meeting attended by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and State Secretary MV Govindan, the PB concluded that the LDF will secure a victory, albeit with a slim majority.

The party’s internal assessment highlights a closely contested election. Notably, the leadership observed that minority votes did not consolidate entirely in favor of the Congress-led UDF. While Christian and Muslim votes leaned toward the UDF in specific constituencies, the party believes this did not emerge as a statewide trend. Conversely, the PB estimates that a significant portion of minority votes was polled in favor of the Left Front in several key areas.

The leadership anticipates the LDF will cross the majority mark by winning more than 75 seats, drawing parallels to the closely fought 2011 election results. However, this optimism is met with caution by political observers, many of whom suggest the Congress could return to power with a narrow margin. These observations align with various pre-poll surveys, which predicted that victories in numerous constituencies would be decided by very thin margins.
