PALAKKAD: The post-mortem report of Alan, who was killed in a wild elephant attack in Mundur, has been released. The report reveals that an elephant’s tusk pierced his chest, resulting in broken ribs and internal bleeding. Minor injuries were also found on his arms and legs.
Alan (24), the son of Mundur Kayaramkode native Vinu, was attacked by the elephant last night. His tragic death has triggered widespread protests from family members and local residents. Locals claimed that despite recent elephant sightings in the area, the Forest Department failed to provide proper warnings. They said that if they had been adequately informed, Alan's life could have been saved. CPM District Committee member P.A. Gokul Das also stated that Alan’s death could have been avoided if the Forest Department had intervened effectively.
The region has been facing severe issues due to frequent elephant intrusions. Though fencing has been installed in parts of the area, locals pointed out that the rocky terrain in certain sections was left uncovered, allowing elephants to enter regularly. Residents complained that they are unable to move freely due to the threat of wild elephants. Alan and his mother were attacked by a herd of elephants while returning from a shop, unaware that elephants had entered the area. The Tahsildar confirmed that a request has been made to the Forest Department to take immediate steps to prevent further wildlife intrusion in the Kayaramkode-Oduvangad region where the incident occurred.
