Heat intensifies in state; Alert issued till April 19, no special rain warning

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that the heat is intensifying in the state. It has been informed that the temperature will be two to three degrees Celsius higher than normal in various districts. The IMD pointed that the maximum temperature in Palakkad is likely to rise to 40 degrees Celsius till April 19.

The maximum temperature in Kollam is likely to rise to 39 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature in Kottayam to 38 degrees Celsius. The IMD has also informed that the maximum temperature in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod is likely to rise to 37 degrees Celsius and the maximum temperature in Thiruvananthapuram district to 36 degrees Celsius.


Due to high temperature and humid air, there is a possibility of hot and uncomfortable weather in these districts except in the hilly areas till April 19. Meanwhile, the IMD has stated that light rain is likely to occur in all districts today. There is no specific rain warning in any district.


The public is advised to avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm as high heat can cause several serious health problems including sunstroke, heatstroke and dehydration.
