
ALAPPUZHA: In a shocking incident, a woman threw her newborn child from a window last night at Haripad Taluk Hospital. The 19-year-old unmarried woman threw the baby after giving birth in the hospital's washroom.
The woman came to the hospital with her father at around 9 pm last night due to stomach pain. The doctor who treated the woman then advised her to remain under observation. The woman threw the baby out of the window after giving birth. The mother and the baby are currently undergoing treatment at Vandanam Medical College.
As per the doctors, the woman told them that she had issues with obesity and fatty liver. The doctors then administered her painkillers and suggested she undergo a scan. However, the woman refused permission to scan her stomach. She insisted on being given medication to reduce the pain. This led to suspicion among doctors whether she is pregnant. When enquired, the woman denied it outright.
Not just that, the woman told doctors that she was currently menstruating. She then told her parents about it. It was noticed that she frequented the bathroom during her time in the hospital. Later, the staff and doctors heard the wail of a baby from the bathroom and the door was locked from inside. When the doctors entered the bathroom, neither the doctors nor the staff could find the baby. It was then that they heard the baby's cry coming from behind the window. When checked, the baby was found, and it was understood that the woman had thrown the newborn baby girl out of the window.
The newborn’s health is satisfactory. It is reported that the family was unaware of the young woman’s pregnancy.
