KOCHI: The makers of ‘The Kerala Story - 2 Goes Beyond’ have filed an appeal in the High Court Division Bench against the stay on the release of the film. The court will consider the appeal tonight itself. The court stayed the release of the film for 15 days. The interim stay was granted by the bench of Justice Bechu Kurien Thomas. The film was scheduled to be released tomorrow. The order was made on a petition alleging that the film portrays Kerala in a bad light.
The court pointed out that the film is prima facie a threat to religious harmony. The court also said that the censor decision should be reviewed. The petition was filed by Sridev Namboothiri, a native of Chittariparamba, Kannur. The court had earlier pointed out that the title 'Kerala Story' was factually incorrect. The court reprimanded the makers for trying to give a wrong perception of the state through the teaser.
The High Court had earlier said that the film is built on surmises and fiction rather than true events, which carries the possibility to rupture the secular ethos of the state. The court had earlier asked for the removal of the teaser and trailer of the film. The producer said that the movie plot does not revolve around Kerala and stood firm in his decision not to change the title of the film.
