THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: KSEB has increased the monthly supply of free electricity, which is given from 1997 to those below the poverty line, from 20 units to 30 units. This is for those with a connected load of 500 watts. The scheme, which charges only Rs 1.50 per unit for 1,000 watts connected load, has been increased from 40 units to 50 units.
The government had on June 28 decided to increase the scope of free electricity in view of the crisis caused by the Covid situation in the society. Accordingly, the government issued an order on July 2, and later KSEB. The Electricity Regulatory Commission was approached for permission to implement this.
