THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) said that complaints of fuses blowing due to overload on the line and significant reduction in voltage have increased due to the rapid increase in electricity consumption in the state. There is a widespread complaint of frequent power outages from 6 pm to 12 pm in many parts of the state. According to the KSEB, the increasing usage of ACs due to the extreme heat and the charging of electric vehicles during the night have significantly affected the power distribution system.

The current situation is that the load of transmission distribution transformers increases exponentially after 7 pm. Daily power consumption in the state has been above 10 crore units for the last two weeks. The other day, 10,77 crore units of electricity were consumed in the state. This is an all-time record.

KSEB says that although the use of ACs cannot be avoided during the night hours in the current situation, the temperature can be maintained at 25 degrees Celsius or above and by doing this, electricity can be saved to a large extent. People should also refrain from using washing machines, iron boxes and pump sets during the night. The use of ACs should be restricted to essential rooms only. Lights should be turned off when not in use. Water can be pumped during the day by avoiding the automatic water-filling system. KSEB also requests people to avoid cooking using electricity during the night hours.
