Narayani teacher walks kilometres barefoot for teaching, 50-years of experience in the field

KASARGOD:For Cheruvathur natives, the word teacher is synonymous to a person - Narayani teacher. For the past 50 years, Narayani has been walking around the village barefoot, going from house to house, teaching children.

Narayani teacher starts her journey at 4.30 am from her rented housed in Cheruvathur. She only carries bag and umbrella with her and reaches the house of first student in Manitattu at 6.30 am. From there she goes to other places. She returns late and have spent more time for teaching during Covid situation. Narayani qualified tenth standard, teaches Malayalam, Sanskrit, Hindi and English languages. She started teaching when she was 15-years old, now she is 65. She travels barefoot on all journeys.

Narayani teacher has no land of her own, her husband is bedridden and has no children. Her only source of income is the fees received from children and has no other means.

Her disciple list includes many prominent persons like doctors and MBBS students. Kavya Madhavan is also her student. She has even travelled to Gulf to teach. Narayani teacher does not wear footwear as part of Palani fasting.
