
THRISSUR: The closing ceremony of the 64th State School Kalolsavam was inaugurated by opposition leader V D Satheesan. The closing ceremony began at 4 pm at the Exhibition Ground in Thekkinkadu Maidan. Actor Mohanlal arrived as the chief guest to inaugurate the closing ceremony. Minister K Rajan delivered the welcome speech. A large crowd was witnessed at the Thekkinkadu Maidan since morning. V D Satheesan congratulated Education Minister V Sivankutty for providing an opportunity for a contestant who faced a health crisis to participate online.
Mohanlal began his speech by remembering Vadakkumnathan. He said Kalolsavam is not a competition but a festival. Mohanlal humorously added that he wore Khadi mundu and shirt that made everyone happy and that he also twirled his moustache to make the children happy. He reminded that actresses Manju Warrier and Navya Nair, singers K S Chitra and G Venugopal are stars who emerged through Kalolsavam. Mohanlal also congratulated Kannur and the school in Alathur for scoring the highest points.
This time, Kannur lifted the gold cup in the State School Kalolsavam. The reigning champions, Thrissur, won the second place. Kannur has regained the cup it lost by a narrow margin last year. Kannur, which had been leading the competition since the beginning, had expressed confidence that it would win the title. It was only after the results of the most recent competitions and the appeal results were released that Kannur confirmed that they had won the golden cup.
Kannur came first with 1028 points and Thrissur is just behind with 1023 points. Kozhikode and Palakkad clinched the third and fourth spots with 1017 and 1013 points. Alathur Gurukulam Higher Secondary School came first among the schools.
