Short circuit cause of fire in car killing couple in Kannur; Sanitizer and perfume added to fire, says special investigation team

KANNUR: The special investigation team found that the accident in which a couple was killed after the car caught fire was due to short circuit. The report submitted by the special investigation team led by Kannur RTO to the deputy transport commissioner of north region, mentioned that the cause of the fire could be the sanitizer and the spray used for fragrance in the car.


Meantime, the chemical test results of other items recovered from the car have not been revealed. Apart from Kannur RTO, E S Unnikrishnan, MVIs P V Biju and Jaganlal were in the team specially appointed to find out the cause of the accident. The team had inspected the car involved in the accident on Monday in the presence of technical experts.

The accident happened on February 2 near Kannur District Hospital. T V Prajith (35) of Kuttiattoor and his pregnant wife Reesha (26), were killed in the accident. The two were sitting in the front of the vehicle. Reesha's parents were in the vehicle when the accident took place but they escaped unharmed.
