THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for heavy rains in Kerala for the next five days.
A cyclonic circulation is located over the central west Bay of Bengal and northwest Bay of Bengal near coastal north Andhra Pradesh and the adjacent south Odisha coast. Another cyclonic circulation is located over south Uttar Pradesh. Due to these reasons, the IMD has informed that heavy rains are possible till June 27.
Winds are also likely to strengthen with a maximum speed of 40-60 kmph. A yellow alert has also been issued in various districts till June 27. The possibility of isolated heavy rains has been predicted. Heavy rains are understood to be a situation where rainfall of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is received in 24 hours. Meantime, the IMD has informed that there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts today.
