Student death after eating shawarma; Coolbar's vehicle set on fire, Devananda's postmortem on today

KASARGOD: Two persons have been arrested in connection with the death of a girl from food poisoning after eating shawarma. Managing partner of Cheruvathoor Ideal Foodpoint, Mangalore native Anas and Sandesh Rai from Nepal who made shawarma were arrested. Case has been registered against them under various sections including involuntary manslaughter.

Coolbar's van was found destroyed by fire this morning. The vehicle, which was parked near the shop, was set on fire. The vehicle has been shifted to Chandera police station. CCTV footage will be checked to find out who set the van on fire.

16-year old Devananda, the only daughter of late Narayanan and EV Prasanna, a native of Mundacheeta in Karivellur Peralam panchayath, died of food poisoning. The girl ate shawarma on Saturday. She was first admitted at VV Memorial Hospital, Cheruvathur for treatment of fever and diarrhea and was later shifted to Kanhangad District Hospital yesterday morning as her condition became critical. She died within hours after reaching here. The postmortem will take place today.

Thirty-one people who consumed shawarma from this cool bar are being treated at various hospitals. The children, who ate shawarma on Friday and Saturday, were found to have food poisoning. All students who were in critical condition with vomiting, fever and diarrhea survived except one.
