PALAKKAD: Sobha Surendran, the NDA candidate in Palakkad, has responded to allegations that the BJP distributed money to voters. Speaking to the media, she said she had gone to Kannadi in Palakkad to visit a cancer patient and claimed that a group was following her car. She also stated that she does not know the woman who allegedly gave money to an elderly person.
“This is all a pre-planned script. The allegations against me are baseless. I do not know the woman who handed over the money. She was not in my car. Some people are attempting to target me. A group was following my vehicle, which is why I stopped and spoke. I will file a police complaint regarding the incident. The woman seen giving money is not the one who was in my car, and her face is not clear,” Sobha Surendran said.
The Congress has alleged that BJP workers gave Rs 5,000 to an elderly woman named Devu, a native of Tharuvakurissi in Kannadi panchayat. According to the allegation, Sobha and two other women had arrived at the location, and after she returned to the car, one of the accompanying women handed over the money. Visuals of the incident have also been released. However, the elderly woman and her family told the election flying squad officials that the BJP workers did not give them any money. Officials who conducted an inquiry at her house confirmed this statement.
