‘Sukumara Kurup model’ in Karnataka; businessman arrested for killing lookalike to claim insurance money

BENGALURU: A businessman was arrested for killing a man who resembled him to claim insurance money. The arrested is Muniswamy Gowda, a resident of Hosokote in Bengaluru Rural. A search is on for Gowda's wife Shilparani. Their aim was to extort insurance money by claiming that the person who died in a car accident was Muniswamy Gowda. The police also arrested the truck driver Devendra Nayaka in the incident.


Shilparani said the person who died on the road in Gollarahalli on August 13 was her husband. After that, the funeral rites were also performed. Gowda had taken several life insurance policies with his wife as nominee. The couple planned such a an act to solve their financial problems.


Gowda and Shilparani lured a beggar on their journey. Meanwhile, Gowda asked the beggar for help to change the tyre of the truck. While changing the tyre, Gowda pushed the beggar under the truck driven by Devendra Nayaka. The three later turned it into an accident. Everyone believed that Gowda had died in a car accident. Shilparani also gave a statement to the police identifying her husband.


Shilparani later started the insurance claim proceedings. However, in the meantime, Gowda met his cousin Srinivas. Srinivas was shocked to see Gowda and immediately informed the police. Srinivas was an inspector at the Sidlaghatta police station in Chikkaballapura.


Gowda, who runs a tyre shop, recently suffered huge financial losses. The police said that Gowda and his wife planned such an act when they were unable to return the money they had bought from many people.


Sukumara Kurup
Sukumara Kurup brutally murdered a film distribution company employee N J Chacko on January 21 in 1984. The murder was committed at Kollakadavu near Chengannur in Alappuzha. After suffocating him, he put the body inside his car and burnt it.

The plan was to extort insurance money of Rs 30 lakh after misleading him to be dead. The police investigation revealed the truth. Two assistants who helped Sukumara Kurup in the murder were arrested. They were sentenced to life imprisonment. However, the whereabouts of Sukumara Kurup is still unknown. There were stories that Kurup was seen in many places and also came his death news. However, it is not clear whether he is alive or dead.
