KOTTAYAM: The six-month rule of UDF in the Kottayam municipality came to an end after the BJP backed a no-confidence motion introduced by the LDF. With this, the UDF has lost control of two municipalities in the district. Earlier, it had lost power in Erattupetta municipality after the SDPI backed the no-confidence motion tabled by the LDF.
The UDF and Congress had hoped that the BJP would stay away from the motion. However, the UDF rule came to an end when the BJP whipped its members to support the no-confidence motion.
Several UDF members stayed away from the no-confidence motion. However, the quorum was fulfilled with the arrival of LDF and BJP members. Following this, the meeting was convened and the no-confidence motion was passed.
