THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aflatoxin, a chemical substance that causes cancer and other deadly diseases, has been detected in milk samples from different parts of the state. This was found during the inspection of the Food Safety Department.

The toxic substance was present in ten percent of the samples from different districts. The Department of Food Safety assesses that this toxin in milk is due to feeding of spoiled fodder, and lack of widespread awareness about improving the quality of milk. In this regard, the Food Safety Department has decided to conduct a campaign in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry Department.
