Malayali student killed in road accident in Britain

POTHENCODE: A Malayali student met a tragic end in Britain as an out-of-control car hit her while she was waiting for bus. Two Malayali students and a middle-aged man are among the injured. The deceased has been identified as Athira Anilkumar (25), daughter of Anilkumar and Lali, of Pattathinkara in Attingal in Thiruvananthapuram. She is a project management student at Beckett University, Leeds. She joined here a month ago.

The accident happened on Stanning Lee Road near Armley in Leeds at 8.30am IST on Thursday. The car went out of control and rammed into the bus shelter, killing Athira instantly. Athira and two other Malayali students were waiting for the bus here. The injured Malayali students were admitted to the hospital. Further information on these Mal;ayali students is not available at the moment. The police arrested the woman who was driving the car that caused the accident.

Athira's body is kept at Bradford Hospital Mortuary. The process to bring the body home, under the leadership of the Malayali Association in Leeds, is underway. Athira's husband Rahul Shekhar is in Oman. The couple has a daughter. A cousin of Athira lives in Leeds.
