KOZHIKODE: Harsheena, who lived with scissors in her stomach for five years, started a hunger strike in front of the medical college hospital after all the doors of justice were closed. Harsheena (32) of Adiwaram Kozhikode, started protesting in front of the Kozhikode Medical College Maternal And Child Health department yesterday morning, to protest the case of scissors stuck in her stomach during delivery surgery, and no action being taken against the responsible doctors and hospital authorities. Harsheena said that if there is no intervention from the government, there will be a hunger strike till death.
'There is nothing left to suffer. I am a mother of three children. My husband is a laborer. During the last five years, the money spent on treatment is lakhs. I am still under treatment. The house and land were mortgaged. It is the handiwork of the doctors of Kozhikode Medical College that has put me in this position. Yet the government and the health department are not looking into it. Two inquiry commissions were appointed. Finding it unsatisfactory, the Health Minister directly called and appointed an inquiry commission under the supervision of the Additional Chief Secretary, Health Department. It's been three months now. No evidence was taken even by him. If you need my death to deliver justice, then I am ready to protest till death. There is no other way to live.'
Harsheena says that the tragedy that happened to her should not happen to anyone else. The scissor (artery forceps) stuck in Harsheena's stomach after delivery was removed on September 17, 2022, by surgery at the medical college.
