THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has written to the Speaker to stop taking actions that harm the rights of the opposition. The letter also pointed out that the current Speaker (Shamseer) owns the record of rejecting the highest number of adjournment motions.
"It is the first time in history that a Speaker has rejected six adjournment motions of the opposition in one session without following the norms. In the 13th Kerala Legislature (Ooman Chandy Cabinet) where the Legislature met for 234 days, out of 191 adjournment motions, only seven were rejected. During the first Pinarayi government, out of 174 adjournment motions, only eight were rejected. But during the tenure of the second Pinarayi government so far, 11 adjournment motions have been rejected without the members having a chance to speak a word."
