City Gas will be available in six more districts including capital city from today

kk

KOCHI: The distribution of 'City Gas' natural gas, which has begun in five districts of the state, will be extended to six more districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, this year. The distribution to the other three districts will start within two years. The Gas Authority of India (GAIL) will provide low-cost natural gas to the entire state for cooking and vehicles.

The City Gas project is part of the Kochi - Mangalore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) pipeline. Gas will be supplied from the 510 km pipeline within the state through GAIL stations to the companies that have taken the supply contract. They will provide gas to villages and towns through sub-pipelines. Gas will be supplied in the Thrissur district from the GAIL station at Kunnamkulam from Sunday. GAIL officials said that in the southern districts, gas is supplied to vehicles through pumps by tanker lorries. About half a lakh domestic connections were also provided.
