KOCHI: The High Court has stayed the Calicut University Vice Chancellor's (VC) order cancelling the transfer of two teachers who protested by burning the governor's effigy. Justice P Gopinath passed the interim order on a petition filed by the secretary of the central committee of NSS Colleges against the VC's order. The teachers protested after the governor issued a show-cause notice to the VCs in Kerala for not complying with the UGC norms.
According to the petition, during the strike in front of the Palakkad Collectorate, the chancellor's effigy was burnt and slogans were raised against the governor. The petition claims the strike was led by S Harinarayanan of Trithala NSS College and Dr Rajesh of Manjeri NSS College and they were transferred by the college management. But the VC of Calicut University quashed the transfer orders on an appeal filed by the teachers against this action. The NSS filed a petition in the High Court alleging that the VC had taken a stand to protect the teachers who were politically motivated for the VC.
