KOZHIKODE: A one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl, who sustained injuries on her private parts, is in a critical condition. The baby is being treated at the Kozhikode Medical College Maternal Child Care Center. The baby was brought to the hospital on the night of May 22 by her mother, a native of Panniyankara. The mother said that the baby's father is in Mysore.
The baby’s internal organs have been damaged as a result of the injuries. An emergency surgery was performed. She sustained intestinal and rectal injuries. The baby is presently undergoing treatment at the pediatric ICU.
The officials said the baby was brought to the hospital two days after the incident. The family told the hospital authorities that they don’t know what had happened and have no complaint. The hospital then informed the police. The hospital authorities complained that despite reporting the incident twice, no action was taken by the police.
The samples collected from the child's private parts were supposed to be sent to the lab for chemical testing within 72 hours, but the police did not do it. The police informed that the information has been forwarded to the Child Welfare Committee. The hospital authorities said they also conveyed the matter to the committee but have not received any reply yet.
However, the police version is that they had collected statements from the kin of the baby and did not find anything to register a case. Had informed the medical college authorities about it. The police said that no clear information about what happened was obtained from the hospital.
