36 killed, 19 injured after bus plunges into gorge in Jammu

SRINAGAR: Thirty-six people were killed and 19 others injured in a bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir. The accident happened early Wednesday morning in Doda. The bus fell into a gorge. There were about 40 passengers in the bus with registration number JK02CN-6555. The officials said the bus overturned 300 feet off the road near Trungal-Assar on the Batote-Kishtwar National Highway.

Rescue operations are continuing and those injured have been admitted at a hospital nearby. Jammu Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences to the family of those killed. This is the second incident happening in a week in Doda.

The Prime Minister’s office said the accident is distressing. The Prime Minister said that a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each would be given to the families of those killed in the accident. The injured will get an aid of Rs 50,000.
