Cyclone Michaung near Chennai coast, red alert in four districts, railway tracks flooded in Vyasarpady

CHENNAI: There are heavy rains and waterlogging in Chennai city as Cyclone Michaung moves close to Tamil Nadu coast. The central meteorological department has issued alert for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Red alert has been declared in Chennai, Thiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpet. In this, the wind blew strongly in the city of Chennai. It is reported that the wind has caused great damage in Chennai. Due to heavy rain and wind in Vyasarpady, the railway tracks are flooded. Various trains including Vande Bharat via this route have been completely cancelled.

Michaung is expected to make landfall between north Tamil Nadu and Andhra's Nellore by Tuesday. Michaung is presently located in the Southwest Arabian Sea. The cyclone will cause heavy rains in the coming days as well. It is indicated that winds may blow up to 80-90 kmph and maximum speed of 100 kmph.

Meanwhile, southern railway has informed that 35 train services from Kerala have been cancelled due to Cyclone Michaung. Railways also informed that the full amount will be refunded to those who have booked tickets for the cancelled trains.
