PATHANAMTHITTA: In response to the public's concern over priests' involvement in politics, the Orthodox Church has taken decisive action. Fr. Shaiju Kuryan, who recently joined the BJP was relieved of his position as Bhadrasanam secretary. This duty was transferred to the vice-president of the Sunday School.
The Bhadrasana Council has appointed a commission of inquiry to investigate Shaiju Kurien's situation. Pending the report's submission within two months, he has been removed from all positions. Allegations include the takeover of church land in Konni through a private trust alleged attempts to assault women and threats against senior priests.
During a ceremony on December 30, Union Minister V Muralidharan welcomed Fr. Shaiju Kurien and 47 Christian families into the BJP. The Grand Metropolitan of the Orthodox Church, Kuriakos Mar Klimmis was also present. Supporters of CPM leader Fr. Shaiju Kurien accuse Mathews of governing unfairly, following Kurien's victory in the Nilakkal Bhadrasanam Secretary election. Additionally, Bhadrasanam issued an explanation notice to Mathews Vazhakunnum for speaking against Shaiju Kurien in media discussions without House permission.
