CHANDIGARH: When 80-year-old Darshan Singh was rushed to the hospital, the doctors ‘declared him dead’. Saddened by the demise, the relatives carried his body into an ambulance and headed straight for the village for final rites. However, the ambulance carrying them fell into a big pothole which thumped the whole vehicle and unseated the passengers. The incident turned into a saving grace for the family as one relative saw the ‘dead’ Darshan Singh moving his hands.

Potholes are killer spots that have hitherto grabbed many lives in road accidents. However, for Darshan Singh, it resuscitated him from a waning death. The incident happened while the body was being taken from Patiala to his home near Karnal. Firewood was prepared for the funeral.

Darshan's family said they then checked the heartbeat and asked the ambulance driver to go to the nearest hospital. The doctors here said that Darshan Singh was alive but was still in critical condition. He is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Karnal. The family is hoping for a speedy recovery as they termed the whole episode as a miracle.

Darshan Singh suffered from many age-related ailments and was on a ventilator for four days after suffering from chest pain. The doctors later informed the family that Singh had died after they deemed his heart stopped working.
