Ten days have passed since the consecration of the revered Ram temple in Ayodhya. however, the controversies are not showing any signs of stopping soon. In a video purported to be two weeks old, (that means before the temple consecration ceremony) Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) leader Uma Ilakkiya is seen making derogatory statements on Lord Ram which has now gone viral on social media. Uma is the Deputy General Secretary of the Dravidar Kazhagam Thamizhar Peravai.

In the speech delivered on January 13th: “If going by Valmiki Ramayana, it is known that Rama indulged in drinking and had more than 1000 concubines in his palace. He had no courage to face challenges so he left his people and committed suicide in Sarayu river. He beheaded Shambuka while the latter was meditating. What kind of example does Ram gives?”

"For some temple getting inaugurated in north India, why are BJP giving these yellow coloured rice to our people” Uma was ridiculing the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Prasad which reached all homes in south India as part of the temple ceremony.

Uma also gave bile comments against Brahmins as she showed apprehension about India soon coming back to Brahmanical hegemony like in the olden days.

DMK criticizing Hindu religion is not new, however, Uma’s rant against the Ram temple ceremony comes at a time when the party has distanced itself from belittling Hindu religion, only minding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
