KALPETTA: Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi lambasted the state government in the wake of the recurring wild animal attacks in the district. Rahul alleged that the government did not intervene effectively in the matter.

He was speaking to the media after a review meeting held in Kalpetta regarding wild animal attacks. Rahul said that he tried to call the Chief Minister on the phone in the morning but to no avail.

“I don’t know why there is still a delay in the development of Wayanad Medical College. Even after so many deaths and such horrific incidents, Wayanad is neglected and the state government is not taking enough action for the introduction of a medical college in the district. I have even written to the chief minister for the same cause”, Rahul Gandhi said.

“My visit to Wayanad is bereft of any political motive. The medical college issue is a serious problem. It is also not right to delay the payment of compensation to the families of the deceased," added Rahul.

Meanwhile, Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday visited the families of those killed in wild animal attacks. The Congress leader visited the house of V P Paul, a temporary watchman with the forest department who was trampled to death by a rogue elephant. Rahul Gandhi also visited the house of Padumala Ajeesh, who was crushed to death by pachyderm ‘Belur Makhna’ last week.
