NEW DELHI: A recent report has claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is unlikely to contest from Wayanad in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Quoting Congress sources, the national media reported that Rahul Gandhi is likely to contest from two Lok Sabha seats in other states. Rahul will contest from a constituency in Karnataka or Telangana. Apart from this, he will also contest from a constituency in Uttar Pradesh

The new development comes while the Muslim League is pressing for a third seat in the Lok Sabha seat elections. The Muslim League is interested in the Wayanad seat as it is a Muslim-majority region. Annie Raja, a national leader of CPI, one of the main parties in the INDIA alliance, is the LDF candidate in Wayanad. Sources said that the reason behind Rahul's decision is the assessment that it would set a bad example if the main leaders of the opposition front fought against each other in the polls. In 2019, Rahul Gandhi had defeated the CPI candidate PP Suneer with a majority of more than four lakh votes.

Meanwhile, CPI leader Annie Raja, the LDF candidate in Wayanad, said that she learnt politics from Wayanad. She also said that she is contesting the election to win.
