AGARTALA: CPM and Congress, the allies in the INDIA front, are pitted against each other in Kerala. Meanwhile, the two parties are set to jointly face the BJP in Tripura. It was the state leaders of both parties who informed this. CPM State Secretary Jitendra Chaudhary announced that both the CPM and the Congress will campaign jointly in the Lok Sabha elections. National media reported that as per the agreement between both the parties, the CPM and the Congress will contest one seat each out of the total two Lok Sabha constituencies in Tripura.
The decision was taken by the state committee meeting in the presence of Polit Bureau members Prakash Karat and Manik Sarkar. The meeting decided not to field the CPM candidate in the West Tripura constituency and instead support Congress candidate Ashish Kumar Saha.
Senior CPM leader and former MLA Rajendra Reang will be the INDIA Front's candidate in Tripura East, the constituency reserved for Scheduled Tribes. State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha said that the Congress will not field a candidate in the constituency. The Congress will not field a candidate in the Ramnagar constituency as well, where by-elections will take place.
