THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to jailed Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh, who has been in Tihar Jail for six months in the Delhi Liquor Policy case. The judgment has thus given a ray of hope for others in the opposition INDIA alliance, as many leaders are currently on the radar of central agencies.

Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia has been in Tihar Jail since February 2023. Party leader and former minister Satyender Jain and BRS leader K. Kavitha, who allegedly paid Rs 100 crore to Kejriwal, are also facing similar jail terms. Atishi, another AAP minister on Tuesday alleged that BJP threatened her to join the saffron party to avoid ED action.

Amidst fear of arrest among AAP leaders, there is a probability that the party will select a new CM face in Delhi. In the Delhi Liquor Policy case, there was no other evidence that Sanjay Singh had received the money, apart from the testimony of the approver. In the case against Kejriwal too, there is only the statement of the approver which has resulted in the ED taking strict action against the Delhi CM.

Many leaders of opposition parties like Congress, RJD, DMK and CPM, who are under investigation by the central investigation agencies, fear arrest before the elections. Apart from the National Herald case involving the Nehru family, Congress leaders including Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar are on ED's radar in the money laundering case. The ED has also started an investigation into the Exalogic company owned by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena.
