COIMBATORE: A case has been filed against Tamil Nadu BJP president and NDA candidate for the Coimbatore constituency, K Annamalai, for violation of election rules. The case has been registered under sections 143, 286 and 341 of the IPC 290. The case was registered at Sulur and Singanallur police stations for attempting to campaign in Coimbatore even after 10 pm.

Last week, another case was registered against Annamalai and a few leaders of his party after DMK activists and allied Left parties objected to BJP workers campaigning beyond the time set by the Election Commission. Following a complaint filed by a DMK member, the Peelamedu police registered a case against four BJP workers under various sections of the IPC.

Coimbatore is one of the constituencies in Tamil Nadu where the BJP has the highest probability of winning. That was the reason behind the leadership directing Annamalai, who wanted to contest in his own constituency Karur, to contest in Coimbatore, where he had a higher chance of winning.
